MECCA x NGV WOMEN IN DESIGN
In 2022, MECCA and the NGV launched a new initiative, the Women in Design Commission.
This 5-year collaboration stems from the idea that through architecture and design, we can help people to see gender in a unique way. World-leading architect Tatiana Bilbao is the inaugural recipient of the commission. She has gained global acclaim for her approach to architecture, designing and building in a way that challenges historical conventions and gender norms. Designers like Tatiana provide visible leadership and inspiration for other women and girls.
“The ongoing Women in Design Commission highlights the ground-breaking work of women in this field from Australia and around the world, as well as strengthening the NGV Collection for future generations.”
Tony Ellwood AM, Director of the NGV
FAST FACTS
In Australia, the same number of women and men graduate from architecture programs and yet only 31% of women go on to practice in the profession
